Special Events: Meet the Artists, Bookbinding Workshop, Halifax Art Book Fair
This is a book and text-based group show by HERMES artists and friends, curated by Frankie Macaulay and Peter Dykhuis, presented in concert with the inaugural Halifax Art Book Fair on Saturday 13 April, organized by Special Characters.
Any of us who have ever been part of a book club know that most of the social time spent together is talking about everything else except the book under discussion. But the critical chat eventually does come around to the subject matter. Yet the ‘peripheral’ conversations are equally important.
Responding to the direct and peripheral, HERMES artists, friends, and institutional colleagues have included:
books and text-based artworks;
printed matter and multiples;
content created conceptually or physically from books, stories, narratives, and texts;
samples of members’ archival exhibition catalogues published by other galleries.
We’ll be hosting a Miniature Bookbinding Workshop at the gallery on Sunday, April 7th at 2pm. Visitors are welcome to observe the session, lead by Rhonda Miller from the Nova Scotia Book Arts Group.
