ANDREW HUNT
“A series of visual curiosities inform and direct my handling of paint. I work intuitively, searching for narrative threads within sketches and source material, letting the act of painting itself shape meaning. Imagery emerges through overlapping forms, juxtapositions, and the accidents that arise in the process. Each discovery prompts a response—an improvisation that leads the work forward.
Alongside this studio practice, I hike and paint en plein air with a compact watercolour kit, capturing the raw, shifting qualities of the natural world. Recently, I’ve been drawn to subtle disruptions in familiar spaces—unusual lights, ambiguous forms, quiet intrusions at the edge of perception. These moments, whether observed or imagined, fold into the work, blurring the line between the real and the unknown.”
Andrew Hunt studied at NSCAD and State University of New York. He has shown work through Canada, the US and Europe. He currently lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia and instructs painting and drawing at NSCAD University.
