Suzanne Caines

Hannah Guinan

Duane Jones

Go Figure… is a 3-person show of work by HERMES’ friends who represent the human figure with physical drawings that (in contrast to slick, monitor-based imagery) build on hand-executed, often aggressive, expression.

Organized by Peter Dykhuis.

Suzanne Caines

Caines’ portraits and figure paintings refer to the philosophical and psychological content of her researched work. By adding multiple textures and layers, Caines often masks previous stages of production. Her artwork bridges the personal and the political spheres of Caines life that she has documented through her drawing and painting.

Suzanne Caines is a Canadian artist, researcher, curator and arts educator from K'jipuktuk, territory of the Lnu's (Mi'kmaq) Nova Scotia, Canada. Caines holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Art from Goldsmiths, University of London (2015), MFA Chelsea Collage of Art (2004) and BFA from NSCAD University (1993).

Hannah Guinan

“Felt tip feelings, fantasy, figures, flowers, fur, and folly.”

Hannah Guinan is an artist and performer living in Kjipuktuk.

Duane Jones

Duane Jones (he/him) is an artist and designer who is fascinated by how visual language is used to change or reinforce prevailing cultural beliefs – an interest he further explored while studying at Bermuda College and NSCAD University.

In direct opposition to his work in design, his art challenges him and its viewers to come away from each piece with more questions than answers.
