2022

I grew up in the woods of Maine on the traditional lands of the Passamaquoddy and Penobscot peoples of the Wabanaki Nations. I have been learning about these woods, and forests in general, and one path of this study is looking at my relationship to the woods I lived within. The drawings in The sunlight that curved to meet me are reflections about how the forest has always helped me to find wonder and joy when I have not been able to. These drawings are a form of thanks to the forest of my childhood.

Leah Garnett lives and works on unceded, ancestral Mi’kmaq land in Sackville, New Brunswick where she is an Associate Professor and current Head of the Fine Arts Department at Mount Allison University.
