Of Things in and of the World

7 – 29 November 2026
Hours: Friday - Sunday, 12 - 6 pm
Reception: Saturday 7 November 3 pm
Artist talk: Sunday 29 November @ 3 pm
The title of this exhibition is an apt description of what is shown here. Both artists have focused their efforts on representing ‘things that are not only in and of the world but are also ‘ordinary’ in nature such as paintings of dogs, screw guns, an excavator bucket and sculptures of a pail, a jug, egg cartons etc.
Andrew Scott, Ruby, 2026, 26”x20”, oil and 4B pencil on birch panel
About his work Scott has said “I paint mundane everyday things as these are what I ingest with my eyes each day. I find as much interest in a collection of dog paws as I do in a pickup truck in flames.”
Thierry Delva, 48 Dozen, 1995, 42”x12”x12, plaster
Delva in turn has stated “I concentrate on things that are in and of the world. I rely on the choice of materials to be in service to the ideas that are central to each of the pieces. In other words, materials and ideas are in concert with each other which creates a lead-up for additional considerations.”
The respective paths these artists have taken to arrive at similar subject matters for their works may be very different but in the end, it’s a match made in heaven.
Andrew Scott attended NSCAD from 1986-1991 where he studied painting with Gerald Ferguson and Garry Kennedy.
He has had several gallery shows over the years both group and solo and regularly takes on commissions. Scott has work in several private collections and the Nova Scotia Art Bank. He has no commercial gallery representation and instead uses Instagram @andrewwgscott as a means of sharing his work.
Scott works out of an unheated garage studio at his home in Toronto. He is also a co-founder and member of the rock band Sloan.
